I am quoting from page 92 of the book.
“In John 17:3, Jesus describes eternal life.
And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
Is that what we want for ourselves and our children, for our mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, and our neighbors?
Jesus, at one time, told his disciples that everyone who does the will of his Father is his mother, brother, and sister (Mark3:35). At another place in Scripture, people ask Jesus what they must do to do the work of God. Jesus tells the “the work of God is to believe in Him whom he has sent (John 6:28-29).” – Praying Our Way Through Stress. Westbow Press, June G Paul
Well, the Bible tells us that God sent Jesus to us so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus came to earth so that all people, in every generation, throughout the world, would come to know God and what he believes. What then, do we think God believes about us? Do we believe that we are created in the image of God?
What does belief have to do with love? I ask this because Jesus summarized all the commandments and said that all the law and all the prophets hang on two commandments – That we love God and that we love one another as we love ourselves.
Do we believe in God? What do we believe about him?
Do we believe in ourselves? What do we believe about and in ourselves?
Do we believe in our neighbors?
And what about doing the work of God? What about Believing in Jesus? Are we working on that, or have we forgotten to keep Jesus in the Center of all our belief and work?
Let us pray,
Lord – We confess that from time to time we get so caught up in doing work that we forget why we are working. We think we are working for food and clothing or to please our bosses. But your word asks us to do our work so that our work expresses our belief in Jesus and in God. Increase in us our knowledge, our relationship with God and Jesus. Grant us the help of your Holy Spirit because without your Holy Spirit we cannot even begin to say that Jesus is the son of God and that we are your children. We ask this so that you may be glorified in this age. AMEN
