Last week in our Book/Bible study we were talking about The Sermon on the Mount. Our study started late as church had started late and ran over extra time and there is of course the Coffee Hour/Fellowship time that we participate in. It used to be that the Priest was very focused on starting and ending on time but as the congregation has grown it seems church takes a little longer and that’s quite all right. Because our study started late we stayed late plus the week before we said we should plan on extra time this particular week because there would be more to discuss and it would give participants more time to speak. A young person wanted to test the sound system in the church because of some other event that would be occurring and he politely asked us how much longer we were going to be so we moved into the fellowship space as that was cleared out by then.
So what’s the point of telling you all this? We sound disorganized don’t we? But we weren’t, we were flexible. And there’s a saying that I used to have hanging on my wall above the phone in the kitchen that read:
Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.
I think I’m going to start saying this over and over again – maybe I’ll tape it up on my walls – if I can be flexible with making adjustments for a Bible Study, can I think about being more flexible when things don’t go as planned in my personal life at home? It’s something I know I need to work on, how about you?
Holidays, Christmas, New Years, and the like – can be hectic and distract us from a sense of peace and joy – being flexible in thought, word and deed can be a huge blessing to yourself and to others.
Lord, help us to be flexible in our time, in our thinking and being, help us to fix our hearts and minds on the reason for this season.
