I’ve been thinking about all the seeking that goes on in the Christmas narratives. It’s really rather amazing when you take time to ponder it.
God sending angelic messengers is literally God seeking us and calling us to himself.
People doing what the angelic messengers tell them to is literally God directing traffic – go here, go there, don’t go here, don’t go there. Come to me!
Mary said, “Here I am Lord – Let it be to me according to your word” and suddenly she was holding her Savior in her arms, knowing he wasn’t just for her.
Who is ready to say, “Here I am Lord . . . Let it be to me according to your will.”
Who desires to discern God’s will in their life this year?
Imagine standing at the manger – linger a little longer – the stores are setting up for the next Holiday – but stay with Christmas just a little longer – let the new birth grow within you, allow someone to help nurture you for a little while longer. Look at the baby in the manger and say ‘There you are Lord, willing to save me. Reach for the child in the manger and listen to the cry of his heart. It’s rather amazing and while Jesus, as a baby lying in the manger couldn’t say “Here I am” among you, for you: he was and in spirit and truth he still is.
Here I am
lying in a manger
waiting to be lifted up
by those who behold
who I am
I am the One who saves
I am the One who loves
I am the One who serves
I am the One who seeks
I am the One who finds
I am the One who desires
to be found and loved.
Come and find me
Here I am
lying in a manger
waiting to be held
in your hearts and
lifted up in the world.
Let us pray,
God, you are awesome in word and deed. We are lost in this world without you; we rush from season to season as you beckon us to remain with you. To nurture the new life, the new birth you have given us this year. The awareness of the miracle of your love and grace wrapped up in cloths and lying in a manger, the living word, food for the whole world, your words bring life and hope to the nations. Help us to hold you and your Living Word in our hearts and lift you up in this generation. Thank you for your saving love and grace. AMEN
