You think you have stress preparing for Easter? Too much happening during Holy Week? Too many people to visit for the ‘Holiday?’
Consider again the thought of Praying Your Way Through this week while thinking about the stress Jesus endured preparing himself and his disciples for the Last Passover Meal he would share with his disciples, the last Passover Meal he would share on earth.
Many churches have several services during this week that you could attend.
If you are unable to attend. You can find several different online sources of devotionals.
Different denominations have different traditions.
What is important to remember is that they are all remembering the life of Jesus Christ and how much he loved God and us.
I believe, along with the many Christian churches on earth, that Jesus still loves us. I believe in the Blessed Trinity God, Jesus, Spirit.
The evidence was made known to me as a child in the church I attended weekly. And again as an adult through studying the birth and life of Jesus Christ.
As Christians we would not have Easter celebrations if we had not had Christmas first and without Holy Week there would be no Easter.
Perhaps it’s all new to you. Or maybe it’s not new, but you’ve never embraced it before.
If Holy Week has always sounded odd and the crucifixion deplorable – that’s ok. Christians think the crucifixion was deplorable too. We aren’t proclaiming that it is a good thing, because it isn’t. A Good God Made Man Named Jesus Christ – was crucified on the cross. The words he spoke and the love he demonstrated through the events of the week leading up to his crucifixion are what we are proclaiming as good and holy and righteous.
I encourage you who have doubts to read and pray your way through Holy Week this year. Check with a local church or online for readings and events. I will come back and post a few thoughts throughout the week. If you’ve experienced great pain, loss, or grief this past year, Holy Week can be a part of your healing process if you will open yourself up to it.
Let us pray,
Lord, open up our ears, our minds, our hearts, our lives to the healing power and love of God that sustained you through the events leading up to your death, resurrection and ascension. Help us prepare for a Holy Easter by praying our way through Holy Week. AMEN
